What It Means to be a Hospitality Sparkler.

I figured it was perfect timing to finally write about my concept of a hospitality sparkler since we are in the midst of the holiday season, and it’s the perfect time of the year to reflect and focus on finding the good in everything. If you’ve followed my work for a while, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about because I recently shared a post about what it means to be a hospitality sparkler.

(But just in case, I’ll leave it right here!)

I really wanted to make a blog about this topic because being a hospitality sparkler is something that I think sometimes might go unnoticed. So the purpose of this blog is for you to read this and either say, “ I am one,” or “I know exactly who this blog is talking about,” and go straight to that person and recognize them.

Not because they won a prize or need recognition but because they deserve it. We get so caught up in our daily routines that sometimes we can’t see or appreciate what someone else does for us. Little do we know that recognizing a spark in someone can change their day or even the way they feel about themselves.

See, being a hospitality sparkler (according to my post) means six things:

  1. You are a team player

  2. You make everyone smile

  3. You see mistakes as opportunities

  4. You are always looking out for others

  5. Your personality shines through service

  6. You make people feel at home

And if you’ve ever worked in hospitality, you know how important each one of these characteristics is. It takes a special type of person to embody all six adjectives and do what they do best: show what true hospitality really is.

It’s not always about being the hotel with the most luxurious spaces, the restaurant with the latest technology, or where everything is automated to make it easier for guests.

It’s about the genuine smile you receive when you check in after a long day; it’s about remembering the names of the people from the table you served earlier today.

It’s always about looking out for your coworkers when they give you “the look” and jumping in to help, no questions asked.

It’s about how your personality comes alive when you meet new people every day, but most importantly, it’s a combination of all these things that makes people feel at home. Because at the end of the day, it’s how we do all the little things within our lives that can truly make a difference, and that’s what a hospitality sparkler does.

So take a look around you. Can you see a hospitality sparkler? If you can, say something!

And if you don’t see one, it’s your chance to become one.
